Here, it has a detailed, focused bouquet with graphite infused black fruit, smoke and cedar aromas. Quintessential Pauillac. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit attired with a subtle marine influence, seaweed and oyster shell. I admire the crescendo of this Pauillac, the manner in which it builds in concentration with a precise and quite powerful finish, without losing any of its precision. Superb. Vinous (93)Dujac’s 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes is simply wonderful. For some reason, I don’t buy the Combottes regularly. Tasting this bottle makes me wonder why. Lifted, perfumed and sensual, with striking layers of dimension, the Combottes does what only Pinot can do, and that is convey richness without weight. Captivating and so inviting, the 2014 is fabulous on this night. |

Wine Advocate (94)Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru from Dujac was one of the talking points of the tasting. It performed extremely well compared to its peers (note that this is a domaine bottling and not Dujac Fils & Père). It has quite an intense bouquet with signs of some whole bunch addition but backed with plenty of dark red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with good body and substance, well-judged acidity, perhaps with the whole bunch defining the wine more than the terroir at this early juncture, although that will not always be the case. Give this time in bottle if you want the birthplace of this wine to express itself. Dujac lovers should have some of this in their cellars—very, very impressive. Tasted September 2017. |

This wine is vinified at Baron Thénard, the source of these grapes, with barrels provided by Sauzet, then moved back to Sauzet's cellar in mid-winter. This slightly peppery, saline Montrachet does not have the distinction of the Chevalier-Montrachet but boasts terrific power and solidity. |

Vinous (94)Bright medium-dark red. Reticent but very pure aromas of cherry, dark berries, licorice, musky underbrush and salty minerals; smells riper and less peppery than the '13, and a bit Cabernet-like. Thick but fresh on entry, then wonderfully suave, juicy and fine-grained in the mid-palate, showing terrific vibrancy and lift as well as a rose petal topnote that's not yet present in the 2015. Still plenty of medicinal reserve here but this is a step up in finesse from the 2013 and distinctly longer and subtler on the aftertaste. Finishes with very fine-grained, tongue-saturating tannins and a subtle whiplash of pungent red and black fruits, minerals and soil. There's incipient body here but the wine is still youthfully imploded and more salty than sweet. Its balance and finesse, though, make it easy to taste today. Extended aeration brought an even silkier texture and lovely sweet Pinot tang of red berries, rose petal and minerals, even a hint of blood orange. Obviously still very young but this wine struck me as a bit more pliant than it was shortly after bottling. It's also hard to believe that such a stylish wine could have been produced here under the old regime. (13.2% alcohol; 3.45 pH; 3.75 g/l acidity; 33 h/h) |
