Further south, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is celebrated for its rich and full-bodied red blends, with Château Rayas and Clos des Papes leading the way.

Vinous (95-97)
The 2018 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru, which comes from the namesake lieu-dit, is one of Véronique Drouhin’s favorite crus and, in her opinion, one of their most consistent. It has a very well-defined bouquet of blackberry, raspberry, pressed iris flowers and incense that immediately seduces the senses. The palate is medium-bodied with fine supple tannins and a perfect line of acidity, the 40% whole cluster lending a little pepperiness toward the pixelated finish. This is unequivocally a Grand Vin.保税价格¥ 24,145.00 -

Vinous (93-95)
Good deep red. Red fruits, dried rose, graphite and spicy oak on the nose. Wonderfully fine-grained, seamless and sweet, combining outstanding fullness with an uncanny weightlessness. Extremely fine-grained and subtle, with some apparent oak spice in the middle palate. Best today on the explosive, broad aftertaste, which saturates the palate with perfume and leaves the salivary glands quivering.保税价格¥ 4,090.00 -
Vinous (93-96)
Bright ruby-red. Very wild, leesy, utterly distinctive nose offers scents of purple fruits and spices complicated by apricot and almond nuances. Wonderfully spicy, fine-grained, idiosyncratic wine with dark berry and rosemary flavors complicated by faint lactic and malic nuances (this is just at the end of its secondary fermentation). Suave, deep wine with an almost oily aftertaste. This should be a knockout. For his part, Saouma describes it as fake gentle today.保税价格¥ 21,525.00 -
Vinous (93-95)
(the crop level here was barely 15 hectoliters per hectare, according to Saouma): Full, bright ruby. Higher-toned and considerably more expressive on the nose than the Echézeaux, offering aromas of black raspberry, licorice and violet along with suggestions of more exotic ripeness. Densely packed and seriously concentrated, but a bit youthfully imploded owing to its crushed-rock minerality; conveys a strong impression of dry extract but little early sweetness. As young as this wine is, it's much more harmonious today than the Echézeaux. Finishes very long, with serious but fine-grained tannins.保税价格¥ 18,320.00 -
Burghound (91-93)
An overtly floral and well-layered nose is elegant, airy and pure with plenty of spice elements adding breadth to the super-fresh essence of red currant aromas that are trimmed in discreet oak nuances. There is notably more size, weight and power to the tautly muscular flavors that culminate in a serious, robust and lingering finish. This is not a monster of concentration but I like the balance and overall sense of harmony.保税价格¥ 19,235.00 -

Burghound (90-92)
A more subtle application of oak frames the overtly floral and relatively high-toned aromas of red cherry and currant where added breadth is present in the form of sandalwood and spicy Asian-style tea. The seductively textured and acceptably concentrated if not especially dense medium-bodied flavors possess reasonable power and volume on the lingering and nicely complex finale. This is classy and certainly very pretty but I was somewhat disappointed with this given its usual excellent quality.保税价格¥ 26,835.00 -

Vinous (92-94)
Red-ruby color. Penetrating, pure, highly complex aromas of raspberry, minerals, flowers and pungent spices. Wonderfully urgent and intense, with the mineral and pungent spice elements carrying through on the palate and giving the wine superb lift. Tightly wound but already showy. Finishes very long and nuanced, with fine, ripe tannins. From a selection massale planted in 1957. Very impressive.保税价格¥ 16,810.00 -
Vinous (91-94)
Medium red. Perfumed, slightly high-toned aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and minerals. The flavors of small wild red fruits display an almost confectionery sweetness along with superb intensity and sappiness. Very stylish and showy, with terrific floral cut adding to the wine's early appeal. Quite high-toned, and sure to be accessible early.保税价格¥ 3,835.00 -

Barrel sample. Greyish deep crimson. Like the Échezeaux, this smells of luxury but here it is darker and a little more oaky on the nose, very dark fruit profile. On the palate, dark, dense and savoury, a little charry, peppery, spiced, but the tannins are unexpectedly fine and supple even if the oak has thickened them slightly. Long, savoury aftertaste. Needs a lot of time.保税价格¥ 13,225.00
