A subtle floral pastille note appears on the clinging finish, which shows good delineation and harmonious tannins.

Pale, glistening yellow. Meyer lemon, pear nectar and jasmine scents show excellent clarity and pick up hints of tarragon and candied ginger with air. Lively and expansive on the palate, offering intense citrus, orchard and pit fruit flavors and suave mineral and floral nuances. Shows fine delineation and spicy cut on the finish, which leaves honeysuckle and chamomile notes behind.

(made with 80% whole clusters): Vivid ruby. Intense red fruit and floral pastille aromas are complemented by smoky Indian spices and zesty minerality. Shows impressive clarity and depth on the palate, with sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors becoming spicier with aeration. Finishes with youthful tannic grip and impressive length, leaving a suave violet note behind. Gonon told me he thinks this wine is in the process of shutting down as the tannins are much more pronounced now than they were in the early fall, and he advises waiting another three years or so before checking back in on it.

This brilliant Saint Joseph is one of the top wines in the appellation and can be enjoyed any time over the coming 15 years.
