  • El Coto Rioja Coto Imaz Gran Reserva 2012 (6x75cl)

    Decanter (97)

This dark, relatively tight-knit Rioja proves that the Gran Reserva category doesn't just indicate the supremely well-aged, relaxed and reposeful style of Rioja, but can also serve to draw drinkers' attention to outstanding wines of density and tenacity which still have a way to run along their potential ageing trajectories. Look out for dark, urgent fruits here sweetened and back-lit by cunningly angled oak, with intense, deep, fresh and searching flavours in which the 10% of Graciano seems to be working overtime. A Rioja of innate drama.

The El Escoces Volante Calatayud El Cismatico 2018 is a fascinating testament to the winemaking prowess of Scotland-born master oenologist Norrel Robertson, also known as 'The Flying Scotsman.' An exceptional expression of Garnacha, this wine radiates a vivid ruby-red hue reflecting the vibrant soils of the Calatayud region in northeastern Spain. Integrated tannins, delicious complexity and a well-balanced acidity make it a stunning example of modern Spanish viticulture. Whether savoured solo or paired with hearty meals, a bottle of El Escoces Volante Calatayud El Cismatico 2018 is an investment in extraordinary winemaking.

  • El Escoces Volante Calatayud El Puno Old Vine Garnacha 2016 (6x75cl)

From the distinguished winemaker, El Escoces Volante, comes the mature, full-bodied Calatayud El Puno Old Vine Garnacha 2016. This exquisite Spanish fine wine, made from 100% Garnacha grapes, brims with a distinctive character symbolising its origin in the historic region of Calatayud. It is the careful cultivation of vineyards, some as old as 80 years, and the minimal interventionist philosophy of the producer, that imbue this wine with its depth and complexity.

Exhibiting a rich palette of garnet hues, this bold red bears the weight of seductive raspberry and black cherry aromas which artfully harmonise with notes of wild herbs and minerality. Its elegantly structured tannins and expressive, lasting finish speak to the meticulous care and wine-making prowess that has been employed. The El Escoces Volante Calatayud El Puno Old Vine Garnacha 2016 is a sublime testament to passionate wine-making and the nuanced potential of Garnacha grapes.

  • El Escoces Volante Dos Dedos de Frente 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (18)

95% Syrah, 5% Viognier, vineyards at 950 m above sea level. Aged for 12 months in a mixture of 650- and 500-litre used French oak. Spectacular and intense dark fruit on the nose! Blackcurrant, blackberries, cassis, violets, smoke and minerality. On the palate, it is rich and deep but not massive. It has mouth-watering acidity, ripe tannins, and elegant oak integration. I find this vintage more balanced than previous ones. The wine has precise fruit expression. 2018 has been the greatest year for this wine. (FC)

  • El Escoces Volante Es Lo Que Hay 2018 (6x75cl)

Marvel at the opulence of El Escoces Volante Es Lo Que Hay 2018, a truly exquisite wine that resoundingly expresses the ethos of its maverick winemaker. Crafted in Aragon's mountainous region by Scottish flying viticulturist Norrel Robertson MW, this garnacha-based wine is a bewitching tribute to the rusticity the vines have survived. Adopting diligent bush vine techniques amid scarce rainfall and lofty altitudes, this wine has a bold character belying its tender nurturing. The captivating aromas of wild berries, black plums, and spice reflect an indomitable spirit steeped in stony soils and cool Spanish breezes. Aged for twenty months in 500-litre French oak barrels, El Escoces Volante Es Lo Que Hay 2018 unveils warm, silky tannins on the palate, and an untamed essence preserved by minimal intervention. This unique vintage mirrors the winemaker's staunch commitment to authenticity and character, distinguishing itself as an objet d'art among wines.

Saturated violet. An expansive, spice-accented bouquet evokes cassis, cherry liqueur, fruitcake and potpourri; vanilla and woodsmoke nuances emerge with air. Juicy and deeply concentrated, offering palate-staining, appealingly sweet black and blue fruit preserve, violet pastille, licorice and mocha flavors that become livelier as the wine opens up. • Envinate Albahra Garnacha Tintorera 2016 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (93)

2016 saw more rain and even snow in this very dry zone, which helped the plants for the grapes used for the 2016 Albahra to regain balance and retain more acidity. The Garnacha Tintorera comes from 25-year-old vines on limestone and clay soils at 800 meters altitude, and the Moravia Agria (which represents 30% of the volume) comes from 40-year-old vines on limestone, sand and clay soils at 710 meters altitude. The Garnacha is kept unoaked, but the Moravia is put in neutral barriques for eight months. I nearly fell off my chair when I put my nose in the glass. There is a jump in quality from 2015 to this vintage, and they seem to have mastered the Moravia, which has a lot more tannin than they thought. It also has a lot of acidity, but here it seems to provide a very elegant and floral touch, with Mediterranean hints of balsam and herbs. The palate has a juicy texture with a refreshing touch. 30,000 bottles were filled in June 2017.

  • Envinate Albahra Garnacha Tintorera 2020 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

2020 was a great vintage in the Mediterranean, and the 2020 Albahra, a blend of 70% Garnacha Tintorera from the zone of Almansa and 30% Moravia Agria from Manchuela, showed better than ever. The two grapes fermented separately with part of full clusters in concrete and with indigenous yeasts. The Garnacha matured in concrete and the Moravia in neutral 228-liter barrels for eight months. It has 13% alcohol and good freshness, a fine thread and round tannins. It's juicy and supple—the harvest was easy with great weather, very different from 2019— and the acidity of the Moravia is more polished. The wine has a bright ruby color and is aromatic and clean, precise and attractive. It's medium-bodied and silky with very round tannins. They compare it with 2017. This is one of the most incredible bargains from Spain. Drink or hold. 59,000 bottles and 750 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2021.

  • Envinate Albahra Garnacha Tintorera 2022 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2022 Albahra is from a year of good quality and good quantity, when the blend was slightly different, 62% Garnacha Tintorera, 30% Moravia Agria, 5% Garnacha and 3% Pardillo, because they rented a vineyard where they also have white (Pardillo) grapes (they might produce a white in 2023). 2022 in the Mediterranean zone was a dry year but it was not as warm as in other zones of Spain, and they think it was the best year so far for the Moravia Agria. So, the wines have more freshness and more acidity. Another big change is that 2022 was the first year that was vinified in their new winery in the zone. So, it's a much fresher wine than the 2021, which was a warmer year. 65,000 bottles and 900 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2023.

  • Envinate Migan 2020 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

The 2020 Migan is a red from La Orotava and was produced with Listán Negro grapes from the village of La Perdoma, whose ancient name was Migan. It comes from four plots—Montijo (40% of the grapes), Tío Luis (30%), La Habanera (20%) and Las Suertes (10%)—on red volcanic soils and at different altitudes, between 350 and 600 meters above sea level, where altitude defines the character of the plot. In 2020, they didn't use the San Antonio vineyard that was used in previous vintages; it has been replaced by Montijo. 2020 was an early harvest, and the grapes fermented by plot, always with indigenous yeasts, and 70% of the wine matured in neutral 500- and 600-liter oak barrels, while the wine from Tío Luis matured in concrete. The change in vineyards (they abandoned the one with more clay at lower altitude and increased in higher altitude and with less clay) has given the wine an extra kick. These wines reward time in bottle, and they need at least one year. Right now, this feels a little closed and tight, but it has great freshness and finer tannins and, in the long run, should make a better wine than the 2019. 11,500 bottles and 300 magnums were produced. It was bottled in December 2021.

Nervy, nicely funky, precise and mineral nose with a “protective” flintiness and an alluring peppery edge to the wild berries and pomegranate. Fine, dissolved tannins with a mealy, dusty texture, tapping into a super tangy, fresh palate full of grapefruit zest and wild berries. Really long and irresistible now, but can age.

    Wine Advocate (98)

There's a little more ripeness in the 2022 Táganan Parcela Margalagua, a jump in complexity and depth from the regular Táganan. It has fruit, elegance and a medium body with very fine tannins. It's very harmonious and with an ethereal quality to it. It has a combination of dry flowers, crushed rocks, herbs and always a marine whiff that makes it quite distinct. It's a very regular vineyard, but this is now a certified single-vineyard wine from the new Islas Canarias - Tenerife appellation. 1,800 bottles were filled in July 2023.

  • Espectacle Del Montsant 2014 (3x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (97)

The cooler and more austere 2014 Espectacle del Montsant could have some similarities with 2008. It has beautiful floral aromas and hints of orange peel and wet stones. It has a serious, balanced and austere palate, a closer expression of Espectacle, with contained ripeness and an earthier, more mineral finish. It's very different from 2015, which is possibly a more classical expression of the vineyard, while this 2014 is quite unique and different. But I like this austerity very much. Around 6,000 bottles were filled from one 4,500-liter oak foudre. It was bottled in May 2016.

  • Espectacle Del Montsant 2015 (3x150cl)

    Wine Advocate (96)

The 2015 Espectacle del Montsant is a ripe and classic vintage for this exceptional wine produced from a single vineyard in Montsant. This has a forward personality—open, expressive and showy in the nose—from a typically warm and ripe year that resulted in a voluptuous and hedonistic Espectacle that's easy to like. It's rounder and lusher than the 2014 I had next to it, and the two vintages showed very different. The palate is also gentler, with integrated acidity and a soft mouthfeel.
