It is planted at about 400 meters above sea level, but the daytime heat and sunshine settles softly into this unique vineyard basin. The 2013 Gattinara Vigna Molsino shows power, firmness and finesse. These traits suggest that it needs a little more bottle age to further its evolution. Of the two vineyard selections, this wine is probably the most cellar worthy. The bouquet shows tight aromas of cassis, spice and campfire ash. Although Roberto Conterno promises that he will not change the Nervi house style, it will be fascinating to taste this wine in a few years, when it is under the full tutelage of the maker of Monfortino. One thing must be said for both Monfortino and Molsino—these wines benefit from first rate quality of fruit. |

I always appreciate the house style of this winery located in the heart of the Ginestra cru at the back side of Monforte d'Alba and looking toward Serralunga d'Alba. These wines always show an extra degree of richness and dark fruit. The delivery is broad and rich instead of vertical and sharp, and the wine wraps evenly over the palate. This expression from the cool 2013 vintage shows good structure, freshness, integrated tannins and a long succession of dark fruits. This was a release of some 4,000 bottles. |

Today, the tannins are super imposing and yet there is an underlying sweetness to the fruit that is impossible to miss. Readers will have to be patient, but the 2013 Carobric is extremely promising. I especially like the freshness and energy here. Moreover, the Carobric has a track record of developing beautifully in bottle. Put simply, the 2013 is a terrific Carobric in the making. As always, Carobric is a blend of fruit from Cannubi, Rocche (Castiglione Falletto) and Bric del Fiasc. The blend of grapes from various sites contributes to the wine’s super-classic feel, especially in this vintage. |

Wine Advocate (97)The 2013 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva was released in January of 2019, and once again it looks to be a top prize. Licorice and flowers dominate the bouquet, and its beautiful red fruit is generous throughout. This wine has always been a beauty and consistently has had a high price tag to reflect that quality, going back to the first vintages of the 1990s. It has regularly sold for about $200 every year for the last decade. These vines are old, some of them very old (reaching the ripe age of 60 years old in 1990s, when many of them were replanted with carefully selected clones), producing an elegance and concentration that brings intensity and a high standard of aromas. This Barolo without a doubt shows its pedigree and a quality of noble perfumes that demonstrate characteristics of the greatest Nebbiolo vintages, all delivered with excellent concentration. The magic lingers on the palate, right up to the finish. |

Because the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). Starting in 2015, Monforte d'Alba fruit will be added. The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola. It is executed in a very traditional style with botte grande and a tiny part barrique to give the wine a tad more oxygen during its integration and aging process. |
