Vinous (95)The 2020 Richebourg Grand Cru was picked on 23 and 24 August, the first fruit to be picked. Yields are 31.7hL/ha. It has a very perfumed bouquet, with more intensity than the Romanée-Saint-Vivant, but I wonder whether it matches it for complexity? There is a lovely background ember scent with Earl Grey loitering in the wings. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, slightly confit on the entry (more so than the RSV), building towards a very convincing finish that possibly doesn’t fully deliver the precision of the previous vintage. This is forthright, but personally, I would like more intellect to develop, a facet perhaps it is hiding up its sleeve. 992 cases produced. Tasted at Corney & Barrow’s annual in bottle tasting in London. |

Vinous (90)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Cuvée Duvault-Blochet 1er Cru was cropped at 18.8hL/ha. It is slightly deeper in color compared to other vintages. It has a precocious and pure bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and just a touch of peony. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, high-toned with a light spicy element emerging with time. This is one of the most outgoing Duvault-Blochets that I have encountered. There's more blueberry fruit, almost pastille-like, towards the finish. Joyous but it leaves the cerebral aspects of Pinot Noir to its fellow cuvées. 679 cases produced. Tasted at Corney & Barrow's tasting in London. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a "big", quite ostentatious bouquet with dark cherries, crème de cassis, tinned prune and blueberries. It augurs for a top-heavy palate, though actually I find this better balanced than expected, certainly more so than the Les Beaumonts with veins of blood orange enlivening the quite persistent finish. This should age well in bottle although I would like to see more restraint on the nose. |

Tim Atkin MW (97)Nicole is thrilled that La Grande Rue is producing at 80% of its capacity, even in this dry vintage. Of course, much less is made of this old vine cuv e – only two barrels. This has a touch more blush in its color than its counterpart. It's also showing some reduction so less perfumed at the moment. There's a strong flint note followed by pretty rose petals then sweet strawberries. The texture is marvellous, feeling of pure silk. You cannot tell the whole bunch on the nose which possesses haunting delineation and focus, vivacious red fruit and stunning tension. There is an audacity about the aromatics that only Musigny can provide. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, crystalline like the Amoureuses yet with even greater depth. Readers will know that I don’t just hand out top potential banded scores to this cuvée by rote. Yet unequivocally, this flirts with perfection. |

This is most impressive, particularly for the remarkably fine volume and power that is delivered with grace and class. |
