Full deep red. Raspberry, violet, truffle and dark chocolate on the nose. Sweet and silky but imploded; as juicy and tight as this is, there's also superb sweet fruit and no rough edges showing. One of the more dramatic, gourmand cuvées in the range is the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes, a stunning wine that bursts with aromas of mulberries, raspberries, violets and rose petals, complemented by hints of loamy soil and baking chocolate. A touch more austere than the magical Veroilles, Barthod's 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras nonetheless gives it stiff competition. Mingling notes of cherries and raspberries with hints of warm spices, orange rind, wild plums and peony, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, with huge texture and concentration. The 2017 Barolo Monprivato is elegant, classy and nuanced. Crushed red berry fruit, spice and blood orange lend and exotic flair to this silky, mid-weight Barolo. The 2017 loses some of its persistence with air, but it offers tons of immediacy and sheer allure. Best of all, the 2017 will drink well with minimal cellaring. The 2009 Barolo Cannubi San Lorenzo/Ravera emerges from the glass with sweet red berries, leather, licorice, menthol and sweet spices, all supported by fine, silky tannins. I very much like the sense of energy and vibrancy Rinaldi was able to achieve in 2009, no small feat. (an 80/20 blend): Light-medium red. Exotic, slightly decadent, old-style aromas of roasted strawberry, truffley underbrush, tar and brown spices. Suave on entry, then creamy in the middle, with red cherry and strawberry flavors complicated by slightly funky but fascinating porcini and earth tones. As with the 2009, the 2010 Côte Rôtie La Turque represents the pinnacle of red wine and, in this reviewer’s opinion, couldn’t be any better. A dense purple color is followed by a powerful, masculine wine that has textbook ripe blackberry and cassis fruits interwoven with gorgeous floral, gamey, bloody, and exotic aromas and flavors. It’s concentrated, full-bodied, and multi-dimensional on the palate, with sweet, polished tannins, and a massive finish. Pure perfection and one of truly legendary wines out there, the 2010 is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc that hit a whopping 14.6% natural alcohol, with a healthy pH of 3.7. This deep rich, opulent beauty is just now at the early stages of its prime drink window and has an incredible array of blackcurrants, chocolate, truffly earth, graphite, and hints of tobacco. A massive wine in every sense, it still somehow stays weightless and graceful, with silky, building tannins, flawless balance, and just everything in the right place. (from a 1.08 ha mix of younger and older vines that average about 50+ years of age). Discreet wood influence surrounds the notably ripe and fresh aromas of cassis, plum liqueur, earth and evident sauvage wisps. There is excellent richness and volume to the suave, round and seductive mid-palate of the broad-shouldered flavors that contrast markedly with the very firmly structured, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finish.
