The 2012 finishes with vibrant, saline minerality, hints of dried rose petals and fabulous energy. Readers who can find the Clos Vougeot should not hesitate. It is magnificent. Grivot owns two hectares in Clos Vougeot, an enormity by Burgundian standards. |

Decanter (96)Warm, lush, and tannic, this wine shows an intensely ripe, plummy fruit aroma with notes of smoke and spice and impressive depth and length. It is the best Clos Vougeot I can recall having from this domaine. The Grivot family has a large parcel (1.86 hectares) at the base of the slope, which is not a highly regarded position in the Clos. Mathilde, however, has made exemplary work of it here. The carefully sorted grapes were destemmed and gently punched down during the fermentation on native yeasts. |

This is beautifully defined, with hints of sea cave/oyster shell and a dash of black pepper that manifests with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied and velvety smooth, with pliant tannins, moderate depth and orange rind, blood oranges and a hint of cardamom toward the finish. This is quite a complex Clos de Vougeot that should age with style. |
