Nicolas Rossignol
About Nicolas Rossignol
Nicolas Rossignol has a firm footing in the villages of Volnay and Pommard. Prior to founding his own domaine, Nicolas worked with his father at Domaine Rossignol-Jeanniard, based in Volnay. With just a few hectares found also in Volnay, Domaine Nicolas Rossignol was founded in 1997, and has since grown by leaps and bounds. Quickly outgrowing his winery, Nicolas has since relocated to Beaune, where he shares a winery with Benjamin Leroux.
Today, Nicolas produces wines under nearly 30 designations, mostly specializing in 1er Crus of the Côte de Beaune appellations, notably Volnay and Pommard. It is therefore little wonder to hear that William Kelley regards Nicolas as “a winemaker who today numbers among the Côte de Beaune's best producers”.

Wine Advocate (92-94)The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières opens in the glass with pretty aromas of peonies, rose petals, sweet wild berries, orange rind, raw cocoa and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed, it's sumptuous and melting, with lively acids and a charming, enveloping profile. This is one of the most seductive wines in the range. |

Wine Advocate (93-95)The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is shaping up beautifully, unfurling in the glass with scents of peonies, sweet berry fruit, blood orange, smoke and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed, it's velvety and charming, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is the highest in alcohol of all of Rossignol's 2019s, but it appears to be seamlessly integrated. |

Burghound (93-95)Very ripe aromas of cassis, black berry liqueur, violet and anise precede the equally broad-shouldered flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the powerful, hugely long and very serious finish that is shaped by a markedly firm tannic spine. This is a buy and forget you own it wine as I would suggest not touching a bottle for at least 10 years. With that said, this is most impressive. |
