In recent years it is hardly surprising that Piedmont has been described by critics like Antonio Galloni as 'one of the most dynamic regions in the world' considering it seems barely a vintage - or indeed a day - passes without the emergence of a new star shining in the ever expanding pantheon of great producers. One which has yet to garner the critical attention that we know is just around the corner is La Morra-based Cristian Boffa. Cristian began his winemaking career as a "garagiste" in the purest possible sense of the word, quite literally working out of a family garage.
He used to sell grapes in bulk and work in other producer’s cellars with his father, but now with five hectares of vineyards mostly in La Morra, the focus is firmly on producing the best possible wine from the fruit at his disposal and, having tasted these wines for ourselves, we can confirm that the results are fantastic.
This is a winemaker and estate in its infancy, but the early signs are remarkably promising. Those who jump on the bandwagon now will undoubtedly see their early purchases become more and more enviable in the years to come.
