The 2019 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has one of the feistier aromatics from Dominique Lafon, featuring vibrant yellow plum, marmalade and orange pith aromas, very well defined and wonderfully assimilated with the oak. The palate is balanced with a crisp bead of acidity that offsets the richness; elegant and refined, leading to a silky-smooth hazelnut and spice-infused finish. From the domaine’s largest parcel, at 1.07 hectares, and planted in the 1950s, the 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a complex bouquet of lemon thyme and honeysuckle, touches of basalt coming through with time. The palate is very harmonious with quince jus on the entry and a little more spiciness on the finish compared to the La Garenne. A lovely blood orange note lingers on the aftertaste. The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru showed quite a heavy reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. (Winemaker Brian Sieve explained that this has as much to do with the cellar in Meursault vis-à-vis Puligny as with winemaking decisions.) The palate is well balanced with a rounded entry, smooth and harmonious, offering tropical tones of apricot and nectarine. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed opening, lightly spiced with lower acidity than the other cuvées even though the alcohol is a reasonable 13.8 degrees.
