Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau has a tightly wound bouquet of blackberry and raspberry fruit. It seems a little closed at the moment, perhaps due to the cold and overcast conditions when I visited the domaine. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins that frame the vibrant red berry fruit, mixed with brown spices, white pepper, bay leaf and clove. This is quite complex toward the finish and should age with style and grace. I agreed with Mathilde Grivot when she commented that this is close to Premier Cru level. |

The medium-bodied palate features mint-chocolate-tinged black fruit. The oak is quite conspicuous at the moment and occludes the terroir profile toward the finish. Give it a few years to meld together so the palate matches the breeding of the aromatics. |

Vinous (96)The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru is quite heady on the nose, though just stops short of overripeness. There's just a soupçon of VA, that gives it a bit of lift. There may be some grilled berries here. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, quite compact and sinewy for an Amoureuses. Then, it gradually reveals amplitude and complexity towards the finish. Give it another couple of years to see if there is improvement, but there is pedigree.
