The 2018 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru is better on the nose than its peers. Lifted blackberry, raspberry and sous-bois aromas become more floral with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit and some stem addition that does not quite assimilate towards the finish, as if there are two Volnays competing in the same glass. The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru contains two-thirds whole cluster and is matured in 50% new oak. It has a well-defined bouquet of raspberry, wild strawberry and pressed rose petal scents, plus just a hint of black truffle in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A gentle, lilting Les Malconsorts with a pliant, lightly spiced finish. Maybe other vintages have displayed a little more density on the finish, but this remains a lovely premier cru.保税价格￥ 9,690.00 -

Matured in 50% new oak, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Corbeaux 1er Cru is a wine whose extraction Bachelet told me he has reduced from 2014, as he felt the clay soils made it too masculine. It is divine on the nose, offering pixelated red berry fruit mixed with oyster shell and limestone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins, perfect acidity and more freshness and tension than it knows what to do with. The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from Combe d’Orveau and is shared with Christophe Roumier. It has a very well-defined bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberry and crushed limestone aromas. The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very deep hue. The extraordinarily pure bouquet features black cherries intermingling with blueberry and oyster shell, and later a hint of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, edgy and stony, with dark berry fruit and a little spicier than I recall apropos of previous Echézeaux at this stage. The 2018 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru may well be the most perplexing offering from the domaine this year. Backward and reticent on the nose, this is very well-defined, but my word, you have to eke out the light sea cave and limestone scents with rigorous swirling of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and very fresh. This is an atypically linear Grands Echézeaux that sports a bony finish marked by the whole-bunch addition. I am fascinated to revisit this once in bottle. Though the oak is powerful and smoky, it is matched by the intensity of fruit and is thus harmonious. Mid crimson. Open and scented with vanilla-laced dark-red fruits. Firm, almost chewy on the palate. Like all these Faiveley grands crus, the oak is not hidden but is swallowed by pure fruit, perfectly ripe but not overripe and with that wonderful character of purity without excess sweetness. Excellent balance between ripeness and freshness. Chewy, structured finish. Sensual and succulent, dark raspberry and blackberry, the suggestion of stems (were some added back in?) add a little structure which is probably necessary as the tannins and acidity are not otherwise pronounced. The 2018 La Grande Rue Grand Cru is the famous 1.65-hectare monopole of the domaine that runs parallel to Romanée-Conti and La Romanée on the other side of the road. It has a well-defined bouquet of dark cherries, raspberry, wild hedgerow and traces of Chinese tea, developing tertiary notes after a couple of minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, a satin-like texture and just the right amount of acidity. The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru comes from 0.5811 hectares of vine (why not be accurate?) split over two plots on either side of the single-track road that traverses the vineyard. It has a delicate, floral bouquet of more of the pressed rose petal aromas one finds on the Vosne-Romanée Chaumes, though here a touch more orange pith and chalk emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins and fine acidity. A refined Suchots that eschews the opulent nature of this vineyard, aiming for something sleeker and more understated. It has a pretty bouquet of perfumed red berry fruit laced with pressed rose petals and light sous-bois scents. The palate commences with a fleshy opening, then offers pure red fruit laced with a pinch of spice. Gentle and caressing in the mouth, with a nicely delineated finish. All three cuvées, white soil, red soil and the new plot, have been blended. Overall two-thirds of the blend comes from white soil Bonnes Mares. Two thirds whole bunch, one third new wood. Glowing rich purple, with a beautiful bouquet demonstrating exquisitely balanced fruit. Ripe of course but there are some red threads in with the darker fruit, fine acidity too, just a sumptuous covering of exquisite dark raspberry and a little touch of blackberry. Bravo! 5-Star Wine. A darker purple colour. Some new oak present gives a slightly lactic veneer. Then the fruit takes over – there is a lot of it, with an underlay of discreet whole bunches. My first thought was that the fruit could have been picked a touch earlier, but the development of the wine soon changed my thinking. The bouquet is really growing now. 1.75 ha (4.3 acres). Higher vineyard than most, facing south-east but cool air comes down the combe. Terres blanches, ie limestone-rich marl. Low-vigour vines here. Theirs were planted 1931, some replanted 2002. 60% whole bunch, 25% new oak. Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Fabulous nose of ripe red fruit with the perfume of peony. Perhaps also a touch of lavender from the whole bunch. Wild flowers and still so much fruit. Much tighter and more strict than Les Combottes, the tannins more upright and less smooth but still very very fine. More stony. 14.2% but you would not know. And that mineral freshness and energy is outstanding even if the wine is less approachable than some. Rich in fruit, mouth-watering in texture and that minerality gives a tight frame to the fruit.保税价格￥ 21,455.00 -
