Sample 1: from a new barrel racked to a new barrel (thus not representative of the finished wine) Deep and rich in dark-red fruit. Peppery, spicy and creamy too. But a bit dry on the finish because of the new oak. Sample 2: from a different barrel More open on the nose, still lovely dark and lifted fruit. More peppery. Juicier and more aromatic. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite robust and grainy in texture and showing some hardness on the savory finish. Medium deep crimson purple. A very floral bouquet, on first impression perhaps this Clos St-Jacques could use more precision. Sensual and succulent, dark raspberry and blackberry, the suggestion of stems (were some added back in?) add a little structure which is probably necessary as the tannins and acidity are not otherwise pronounced.
