One of the stars of the vintage, the 2015 Domaine de Chevalier has turned out even better than I expected. Bright floral notes give striking aromatic lift to the rich, sumptuous fruit. A marvelously complete wine, the 2015 is racy and silky on the palate, yet also has tremendous freshness. Bright red cherry, blood orange, white pepper, spice and dried flowers build into the super-expressive finish. The 2015 has been nothing less than stunning the three times I have tasted it so far. The 2015 Acte 7 has a perfumed bouquet with pressed iris and violet infusing the black fruit, quite mineral-driven and focused, gaining intensity with aeration whilst retaining wonderful finesse. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, well judge acidity, hints of dark chocolate infusing the black fruit laced with truffle and a hint of liquorice. It fans out wonderfully towards the finish that has so much freshness, adorned with a long marine-influenced finish. The 2015 Gloria is another Saint-Julien that has improved over the last 12 months. It has a bolder and more exuberant bouquet than some of its peers, featuring lush blackberry and blueberry fruit and revealing a touch of iodine and crushed violet with aeration. The medium-bodied palate displays supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity and very pure fruit intensity (black cherries, bilberry and boysenberry), although it clams shut toward the finish.
