The mineral-driven palate is very well balanced with gentle grip and a chalky finish similar to the Vieilles Vignes. Superb.

Matured in 50% new oak with 50% whole bunch, it has a perfumed bouquet of incense and rose petal scents filtering through the brambly red fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers firm, grippy tannins. A little saline in style, with a powerful, almost burly finish that will require several years just to smooth down its edges.

It needs a little more flesh and grip on the finish, but otherwise this is a finely crafted Clos de Vougeot.

Hudelot-Noëllat's 0.8ha holding is made up of two parcels, both of them in the best bit of the Grand Cru. Aged in 40% new wood, this is a not a blockbuster style by any means, emphasising freshness, balance and harmony instead. Floral, racy and supple, it has well-integrated 40% new wood, some vanilla spice and a poised, elegant finish.
