  • Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2013 (6x75cl)

With an impeccable sense of balance, the Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2013, produced by Akitu winery in the illustrious Central Otago region of New Zealand, manifests the exceptional terroir of its home ground. This vintage is derived from handpicked, hand sorted, and de-stemmed grapes, set apart by its compelling complexity and expressive dark fruit notes. The wine’s ageing in French oak barrels for 16 months only accentuates its wraparound texture, harmonising ever so elegantly with the layers of ripe red and black cherry, entwined with hushed whispers of lavender and earthy undertones.

Esteemed winegrower Andrew Donaldson's philosophy shines through - letting the vineyard express itself. Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2013 brings to the fore the qualities of its specific clone mix and the unique sub-alpine climate it thrives in, culminating in a wine that's ethereal yet deeply rooted. Templating fine wine, it truly captures the essence and precision of world-class Pinot Noir.

  • Akitu A1 Pinot Noir 2016 (6x75cl)

    International Wine Challenge (96)

Delightful, harmonious, elegant Pinot with complex flavours of a savoury, dark fruit, leafy notes and hints of smoky oak. Delicious; still in its youth. Vibrant, youthful wine with all to play for.

  • Bilancia Hawkes Bay Syrah Collina 2013 (6x75cl)

    James Suckling (98)

Cloaked in freshly ground black pepper, plenty of meaty charcuterie complexity and loads of spice. Orange rind and graphite. Some musky lift. Blackberries and plums. Concentrated dark-plum and black-cherry flavours, with blackberry, dark chocolate and mocha. Best from 2019.

  • Blank Canvas Upton Downs Pinot Noir 2016 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (18)

Lightish mid ruby, not star bright because unfiltered. Pretty, aromatic red fruits with the freshness of stem influence but without being overtly stemmy – the freshness and structure of stems but no greenness. Already quite complex on the nose, with hints of floral and citrus as well as the red fruits. There's intensity without unwanted concentration, the fruit is sweet but not overly so and the tannins already silky. Freshness to the long finish.

  • Burn Cottage Pinot Noir 2017 (6x75cl)

    Bob Campbell MW (97)

I never swallow samples during tasting but got pretty close with this wine. It’s just so damn delicious with layer upon layer of fruit and savoury characters that defy description. A tease of fruit sweetness is balanced by gentle tannins and subtle acidity that drive a very lengthy finish. A seriously good Pinot Noir.

  • Clarendon Hills Brookman Merlot 2007 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (92)

Full ruby. Deep, smoky aromas of blackcurrant, dried rose and cracked pepper, with a slow-building herbal quality. At once juicy and smooth, with intense red fruit compote flavors over a firm mineral underpinning. Finishes spicy and long, with supple tannins arriving late and adding gentle grip. Drinking well right now but this should be even better with a couple more years of bottle age. This was aged in 85% new French oak.

  • Clarendon Hills Clarendon Grenache 2004 (6x75cl)

    Wine Enthusiast (95)

Cropped at a measly half ton per acre, this is Clarendon Hills' top Grenache bottling. It's tighter and denser than the other, more flamboyant offerings, needing time in the bottle to develop. For now, it's loaded with wonderfully pure blackberry and cassis fruit, but it promises to develop more complexity over the years; try from 2008-2020. Long and softly tannic on the finish.

Dark, glass-staining purple. Expansive, floral bouquet of boysenberry, candied plum, blueberry jam and kirsch, with sexy oak spices and vanilla accentuating the impression of sweetness. A gorgeous expression of bright dark berry flavors, complicated by deft notes of cinnamon, cigar box and star anise. This shows impressive power but also an overall sense of elegance and finesse, especially on the juicy, long finish. An amazing wine, with jaw-dropping concentration and clarity.

  • Clarendon Hills Moritz Syrah 2004 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95)

An amazing performance, even better than last year’s showing from tank, the 2004 Syrah Moritz is produced from one of Clarendon Hills’ youngest vineyard sites (planted in 1975). The wine was aged in 42% new French oak for 18 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Gorgeous aromas of flowers, blueberries, cassis, and meat jump from the glass of this cuvee. With huge body and a rich, intense style, Bratasiuk claims it is his hypothetical blend of a Cornas and Hermitage, although it possesses more fruit than most of those wines. It should drink well for a minimum of 15 years.

  • Clarendon Hills Onkaparinga Syrah 2008 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (92)

The 2008 Onkaparinga Vineyard Syrah is very deep garnet-purple in color, revealing notes of tar and tires over fruits of the forest conserve, warm black currant, licorice, loam, vanilla, cedar, meat and damp leaves. Ripe and fleshy in the mouth, it has a solid backbone of high acid and medium-firm fine tannins, finishing long and earthy. It should be best from 2013 to 2020+.

  • Clarendon Hills Romas Grenache 2007 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (93+)

(84-year-old vines) Saturated ruby. The most aromatically complex of this year's set of grenache bottlings, displaying red and dark berries, cherry, rooty sassafras, smoky herbs and a sexy floral quality. Rich, palate-staining raspberry and boysenberry flavors are given shape by fine-grained tannins, which gain power with air. Packed with dense fruit but slow to show itself right now, finishing with a late note of exotic floral pastilles and very good youthful grip. This could use a couple years to unwind.

  • Felton Road Block 3 Pinot Noir 2018 (6x75cl)

This year, my favorite of the Felton Road releases is the 2018 Block 3 Pinot Noir, which balances the richness and power of the vintage with bright red-fruit flavors and ample complexity. It's medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and muscular without being inelegant, powering to a long, gently dusty finish tinged with cocoa and cola.

  • Gralyn Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 (6x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (89+)

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon from 28-year-old, dry grown vines) spent 20 months in new French wood. It offers up earthy, spicy, cedary, new saddle leather, black currant, and dried herb characteristics. Tannic and austere, it could easily be confused with a top Medoc from a moderately tannic vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2018.
