The North American wine producing reputation can largely be attributed to the global fame and success of Napa Valley and Sonoma County in the United States. South America is an exciting new melting pot of styles and flavours with a range of soils types and altitudes – taking international varietals and finishing with French winemaking techniques, or in the case of Argentinian Malbec, adopting a largely unloved grape and making it their own.

I also tasted two consecutive vintages of the slate Pinot Noir, and the oldest of the two is the 2016 Aconcagua Costa Las Pizarras Pinot Noir, which fermented with 18% full clusters in open vats after a cold soak and had a 20-day maceration. It matured for some 14 months in French barriques, 33% of them new. It has that iodine-like or fresh blood note I associate with schist and iron soils. This seems fresher and more precise than the previous 2015, unlike what I saw in the Chardonnay bottlings. Cask sample. Black core, the colour of elderberry juice at the rim. Rocky, dusty black and red fruit on the nose. More lifted than the single-vineyard components but some herbs too. The fruit has a wilder character than the single-vineyard Tannat and is even more rocky and dusty – ie more terroir than variety. Super-fine texture, a little more red fruit and some dried fruit but still with tension/freshness. For an intense wine, there is surprising delicacy in the aroma and the tannins - more bone than meat (I mean that positively). A touch earthy. Again I feel that can smell the Atlantic and the rocks and the wind. Dry but still juicy. Paper-fine texture. Beautiful if embryonic now but will surely develop well in bottle.保税价格￥ 3,115.00 -

Made exclusively from estate-grown fruit, the 2017 Syrah is composed of 82.4% Syrah, 5.2% Mourvèdre, 7.8% Petite Sirah, 2% Grenache, 1.2% Petit Manseng and 1.4% Viognier that was fermented with 26% whole cluster. The vineyard sources are 32% Eleven Confessions, 41% The Third Twin, 25% Cumulus and 2% Molly Aida. It is to be aged for around 23 months in French oak, 59% new. Deep garnet-purple, this nascent Syrah-dominant blend pings exuberantly out of the glass with a veritable POP—offering expressive notes of chocolate-covered cherries, blueberry compote, licorice, violets, black licorice, spice cake and tilled earth with hints of wild sage and tar. (The Third Twin Graciano 2014) A blend of 90% Graciano and 10% Mourvèdre, completely destemmed and then aged all in used oak barrels for around 27 months, the 2014 The Third Twin Graciano sports a very deep garnet-purple color and beguiling nose of espresso, tapenade, preserved plums and Indian spices with earth and licorice nuances. The densely packed, full-bodied palate has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and lovely freshness, with loads of earthy layers and fantastic length, which features buckets of exotic spices. This is the first edition of this single vineyard wine, coming entirely from The Third Twin Vineyard in Los Alamos, showcasing not only the potential of this amazing site but of this grape variety in the region. Manfred Krankl commented, “Of course I realize this is a Spanish variety, but I think God...or someone...made a slight mistake along the way, as the grape very much reminds me of the Rhône.” Positively the finest example of this grape I have ever tasted, move over Spain, Graciano has found a new spiritual home in California’s Central Coast! 65 cases were made. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, 30 Sep 2017) (The Third Twin Graciano 2015) Graciano is a low-yielding Spanish variety grown primarily in Rioja, but Krankl contends that its spiritual home is the Rhône Valley: it reminds him of Mourvèdre in so far as it needs to be very ripe to show all its character, he says. And it's certainly a striking addition to his winemaking palate, with a character quite distinct to any of the other red varieties he works with. Offering up aromas of cherry pit and balsamic cherries, subtly framed by creamy new oak, the 2015 The Third Twin Graciano is amazingly saturated in color. On the palate, it's velvety, full-bodied and richly tannic, almost preternaturally concentrated in character, but remarkably supple and expansive despite its formidable levels of extract and structure. The 2017 Nuestra Senora Del Tercer Gemelo sports a ruby/purple color (though not completely opaque), followed by a gorgeous nose of bright cherry, white pepper, black raspberry, white chocolate, and herbes de Provence. With generous notes of smoked meats and game as well as a kiss of iron and iodine, this full-bodied red is just thrilling on the palate, with fine tannins as well as good spine of acidity.
