About Tenuta di Trinoro
One of the most eccentrically helmed and breathtakingly situated Tuscan estates to emerge from the powerful Super Tuscan movement, the name Trinoro may not enjoy the internationally ubiquitous fame of the likes of Sassicaia or Tignanello, but it is a producer with whom serious collectors simply must become more intimately acquainted.
Situated in peculiar isolation, compared to the countless wineries clustered around Bolgheri for example, Tenuta di Trinoro rests in a valley near Sarteano where Tuscany meets Umbria and Lazio. Enigmatic proprietor Andrea Franchetti describes his vinous home as “a godforsaken place on the east of the first limestone mountain north of Rome with an ex-volcano between it and the sea”.
Protected by the 600 metre-high Monte Amiata, a unique microclimate is one of the main advantages of Trinoro, creating a very even year during which the summers are hot but not scorching and there are still leaves on the trees in December. Franchetti counts himself blessed to be in a position to leave his grapes on the vine for such a long time, and this long maturation process certainly shows in the powerfully concentrated and gorgeously layered fruit of his cuvées.
A particular focus of Trinoro is on the increasingly fashionable Cabernet Franc grape, a varietal which Franchetti considers to be both wrongly maligned and incorrectly relegated to the third string by the Bordelais. Very much the darling grape of oenophiles the world over at this moment in time, it is easy to see why this wonderful varietal is capturing the imaginations of so many when handled by masters such as Franchetti.

Here is a very successful interpretation of Trinoro's signature wine style. The 2011 Tenuta di Trinoro is mostly Cabernet Franc (90%) with Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in reduced background roles. This very warm vintage saw no Merlot used in the blend. This wine truly stands out. It is expressive and endowed with an important sense of drama and darkness The fruit comes forth in ripe, chewy and slightly sweet waves of intensity with blackberry preserves, cherry compote, spice and pipe tobacco. This is a beautiful wine with infinite depth. Born in a hot and dry vintage, the 2017 Tenuta di Trinoro (a blend of 69% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon) never steps over the line into jammy or overripe territory. In fact, the wine is masterfully restrained and elegantly managed. Andrea Franchetti dealt with a harvest that, as he put it, yielded "tiny berries, all skin and seeds and no juice." I only feel the heat of the vintage in the tannins, which are a bit dryer and more astringent in this wine. This full-bodied Tuscan red boasts deep layers of black fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. About 7,000 bottles were made. Give the wine an extra year or two of bottle aging to allow those tannins to soften up just a bit.保税价格￥ 5,830.00 -

This is a stunning wine and one of the best in this report covering the icons of Tuscany. The 2019 Tenuta di Trinoro is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels, and the blending formula changes according to vintage and the style desired by vintner Andrea Franchetti. These vineyard parcels vary in altitude, ranging from 400 to 600 meters above sea level, and the soils are quite varied with pockets of clay, sand and rock. The Trinoro is profoundly deep and pure with a solid core of black fruit that is framed by an elegant contour of spice, tobacco, smoke and crushed stone. To the palate, the wine is long and the finish can be counted in minutes, but the entire experience is beautifully streamlined and velvety. The flagship wine from Tenuta di Trinoro is this gorgeous blend of 92% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. The 2020 Tenuta di Trinoro follows on the heels of the 2019 vintage that earned a perfect 100-point score. The 2020 vintage is more open-knit for sure, but it offers a very special view onto Cabernet Franc in particular. The plush black cherry softness of the Merlot is aligned magically with the dark intensity and tannic power of the Cabernet Franc. The fruit ripeness is impeccable and there are no green tones, nor are there any overripe nuances. Everything comes together with balance. This is a terrific value proposition. The 2019 Le Cupole is a blend of 47% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot. The first vintage was made in 1995, and although these four varieties have been used in the blend since the beginning, the various percentages change according to vintage conditions. This long 2019 growing season was a little more challenging for the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The wine delivers plenty of rich concentration and ripeness, but there is also a pureness to the fruit that happily underscores its cheerful and informal personality.保税价格￥ 1,385.00 -

The 2021 Le Cupole (a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is the well-priced entry-level red from one of the most prolific and creative wine estates in Tuscany. Le Cupole is velvety and full-bodied with dark fruit, dried cherry and sweet earth or terracotta. This is an incredible value.
