About Domaine Jean Grivot
Domaine Jean Grivot is today one of Burgundy's true icons, under the talented stewardship of the fifth generation of Grivots, this is a Domaine that shows its full pedigree vintage after vintage. Domaine Jean Grivot is one of the very first Burgundian Domaines to bottle and sell wine under their own name in the 1930s, the Grivot family’s roots run almost as deep as their vines’ in the region.
Etienne and his wife Marielle took over from his late father, the eponymous Jean, in the early 1980s. The style of the wine under Jean was perfectly refined and elegant, but somewhat lacking in depth and richness, especially in lesser vintages. The terrible vintage of 1994 was something of a blessing in disguise for the estate – it allowed Etienne to find his voice and, through necessity as much as anything, develop a bolder and more generous style of wine with real profundity.
Viniculture
Well into his stride of crafting a range of sensational wines, the 15 hectare Domaine is consistently one of the most sought after and critically acclaimed names in Burgundy. The Grivot vines are on average a considerable 50 years old, spread across some of the finest vineyards in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-St-Georges. Aside from completely destemming the grapes, Etienne favours a very low intervention style of winemaking, claiming to favour the “spiritual” (natural fermentation) to the “physical” (punching down etc.).
Somewhat averse to the gushing praise heaped upon him, Etienne says of his success: “There’s no recipe; it’s very personal. As a result it’s very frustrating as one’s never content”.

Medium crimson ruby in colour. A very fine perfumed nose, with a blacker note on top of the red fruit, the touch of garrigue for which Roncières is noted, a saline touch also behind the red fruit, with some orange zest. An even mid ruby colour, lovely cherry and raspberry, a few tannins behind, medium plus concentration of really attractive fruit, picked at the right time, with good length and just a little bit of the southern herbal character that Etienne Grivot associates with this vineyard. Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières comes across a bit moody and sullen from barrel, especially after the livelier Les Charmois. Raspberry and wild strawberry scents eventually emerge, albeit reluctantly. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Very poised and quite mineral-driven, this conveys fine energy and a satisfying sense of strictness toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Excellent.保税价格￥ 3,040.00 -

A touch deeper in colour than the Vosne, but not markedly so, A darker fruit, a sighting of the traditional Nuits-St-Georges plums along with the fresher raspberry of this vintage. Fuller bodied than the Vosne-Romanée, perhaps a little less finesse, so both are true to their appellations. Well managed tannins to finish, and persistent. Drink from 2025-2031.保税价格￥ 3,000.00 -

A little deeper in ruby colour. A pleasing mid ripeness to the fruit, this Nuits Lavières is beautifully balanced, with a fine mineral crunch following the solid and persistent raspberry fruit. Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)
The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières is understated on the nose, with a mixture of red and black fruit, rose petals and light blueberry scents. This is Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced with finely spun tannins and a touch of cracked black pepper. This is an animated Aux Lavières that I feel might shade the previous vintage. The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Charmois has slightly more red fruit than the Aux Lavières, hints of potpourri and lavender complementing the cranberry jus and red currants; more cassis aromas develop later. Burghound (96)
A gorgeously spiced and perfumed nose is intensely floral in character while offering up notes of both red and dark currant, sandalwood, exotic Asian-style tea and discreet dried rose petal nuances. The muscular yet refined big-bodied flavors exude ample minerality onto the powerful, focused and once again compact, focused and explosively long finish. This too is indisputably built-to-age and I wouldn't be surprised if it required fully 20 years before it is fully ready. Vinous - Neal Martin (96-98)
The 2023 Richebourg Grand Cru has a typical nose for this vineyard, backward and a little stern at first. Its tightly wound redcurrant, cranberry and black plum fruit notes become more open with acquaintance. Apparently, it was very open the previous day, but this is in a mood! The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and a beguiling sense of symmetry from start to finish. This might be the most elegant Richebourg that I have encountered from Grivot at this stage. It's very poised with an extremely long aftertaste. This will require serious cellaring.保税价格￥ 15,360.00 -

The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has an inviting and quite sensual bouquet of crushed ripe strawberries, cranberry, touches of cassis and violet, showing good intensity. The palate is intense on the entry. No hanging about here; just penetrating spicy black fruit with a satin-like texture and a vibrant sorbet-like finish that leaves the mouth tingling with pleasure. The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has an exquisitely-delineated bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit that unfold with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly flinty opening, compact, quite peppery with a deepening and rather grippy finish. There is something sultry about this Aux Brûlées, a Premier Cru that will repay 4-5 years in the cellar.保税价格￥ 5,935.00 -

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru is a little taciturn at first, but it only takes a little aeration to reveal brambly red fruit, briar, black pepper and light graphite scents. This is quite complex and, like Grivot's other 2023s, very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing crunchy texture on the entry. One of the more peppery Vosne-Romanées, again, you could be deceived into thinking there were stems in blend when there are none. It sashays toward a very harmonious finish. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges 1er Cru has "grown up a lot over the last 10 years," according to Etienne Grivot. It is one of the more reticent cuvées on the nose this year, reluctantly unfolding to reveal more tertiary red berry fruit laced with garrigue and iodine. Good complexity, but these aromatics will need time to open. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins. Quite compact at the moment, this has good grip and a saline, marine-influenced finish that fans out beautifully. Always one of my favourite Vosne premiers crus from Mathilde and Etienne Grivot, this textured, stylish, deftly oaked red has all the most appealing features of the 2017 vintage, with lots of sumptuous, summer-pudding fruit, filigree tannins and a foundation of acidity. The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru perhaps has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Grivot’s Premier Crus: graphite-infused red fruit, touches of forest floor, very precise and detailed. The palate is medium-bodied with finely-sculpted tannins. There is unerring symmetry here and whilst it may miss a bit of substance on the finish, this may well be addressed by the time it finishes its élevage. Superb.保税价格￥ 6,075.00 -

Clear bright ruby purple. The nose flickers in and out, and while there is a fine tensile line of red berry fruit, this is not too demonstrative. Perhaps some of the refined detail of an Echezeaux. Vinous - Neal Martin (94-96)
The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has a lifted, perfumed, quite floral bouquet that is more flirtatious than the Les Beaux Monts. The red berry fruit comes out and hugs the senses. Its palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine acidity, conveying a sense of symmetry. It's not a powerful Les Suchots and it just tapers in a little toward the finish. This is very controlled and perhaps more linear than presupposed. This should be intriguing to observe maturing in bottle.保税价格￥ 7,930.00 -
Burghound (89-92)
(from 8 different vineyards the most important of which is Aux Ormes). Here the nose is firmly reduced today though there is good freshness and verve to the intense, sleek and beautifully defined medium weight flavors that possess very fine concentration that helps to buffer the moderately firm but fine tannic spine supporting the balanced and impressively persistent finish.
