About Domaine Jacques Prieur
Since 1868, Domaine Jacques Prieur has quietly but diligently assembled what may just be the single most extensive collections of vineyards of any single Domaine in the region. One of, or quite probably the only, vineyard owning estates in Burgundy to currently own plots across both Côte de Beaune and Nuits, collectors have been seeking out and delighting in the wines of Jacques Prieur for centuries.
Today, one of France’s greatest female winemakers is at the helm, overseeing a mosaic of truly exceptional terroirs. Nadine Gublin was in fact named Best Winemaker in France by the Revue de Vin de France in 1998, and has done nothing but improve her methods and knowledge since then. Examples of this include the move towards some selective whole-bunch fermentation and the well-judged usage of between 50 and 80% new oak barrels for their Grands Crus.

Outstanding. A much more floral-suffused nose speaks of more elegant aromas of various dark berries, anise and discreet earth wisps. The sleek, intense and precise medium weight flavors possess a beguiling mid-palate texture before concluding in a slightly more complex, balanced and sneaky long finish. The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has quite an understated, elegant bouquet for this vineyard, hints of salted liquorice infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin - an assertive Chambertin that feels strict and, unlike the aromatics, quite penetrating. The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed and has a lovely blackberry, briar and mineral-driven bouquet that feels well defined and vivacious. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, very grippy tannins that lacquer the mouth. This is a bold, assertive Chambertin; what it needs is a little more nuance and precision toward the finish. The 2020 Chambertin Grand Cru was completely de-stemmed and has an intense bouquet with blackberry, briary, undergrowth and a light floral scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly peppery opening - in fact, you might be deceived into thinking there were some stems in this Chambertin. (this was racked off its lees the day before my visit and was slated to be bottled before the 2011 harvest): Slightly cloudy yellow. Aromas of peach, apple, spices and crushed stone, with a hint of noble reduction. At once chewy and smooth, with a distinctly taut quality to its flavors of apricot, minerals, anise and flint. Finishes saline and powerful, with a flavor of custard pie as well as a note of grapefruit pith that tickles the taste buds. Lots of aging potential here.保税价格￥ 19,105.00 -

The 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru includes 20% whole bunches this year. It has a slight mintiness on the nose, quite generous if not as complex as the Corton-Bressandes tasted alongside. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, quite strict and fresh with a chalky texture, and a slightly curmudgeonly finish. The 2018 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is matured with 35% whole bunch and 60% new oak. It has a slightly opaque bouquet, closed and not ready to come out and play at this early stage. The palate is grippy on the entry and quite oaky, and the wood tannins feel a little intrusive toward the finish. This is a captivating Clos Vougeot with a vibrant bouquet and excellent energy. Mulberries, chocolate and smoky minerality flood the palate. Smooth tannins and mouth-watering lift make this a surprisingly accessible Clos Vougeot. The 2017 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru contains 40% whole bunches and matures in around 50% new oak. It has quite an elegant bouquet with black cherries, raspberry coulis and flecks of dark chocolate, the oak neatly integrated. Matured with 30% whole bunch and aged in 60% new oak, the 2018 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru has an attractive bouquet of red berry fruit and touches of mint and meat juices, all nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, good balance and gentle grip. It turns a little savory toward the finish, and a pinch of white pepper and sage lingers on the aftertaste. The nose is a touch reserved now, but the palate offers generous forest berries with toast and chocolate influences. (these were the last chardonnay vines harvested in 2010): Very pale yellow with a green tinge. Brilliantly pure, high-pitched aromas of chalk, lime blossom, peppermint, spearmint, white pepper, anise and wild herbs. Delicate on entry, then saline, dry and rich in the middle, with outstanding cut and precision to its flavors of crushed rock, spices and truffle lifted by mint oils. Classic east-facing Corton-Charlemagne from marne blanche soil in Ladoix. For all its energy, this wine already boasts a remarkably silky texture. (harvested on September 12, with potential alcohol of 12.8%; from an east-facing, cool site at the top of the hill, just under the trees, where phenolic maturity usually comes before sugar ripeness): Pale, bright, green-tinged yellow. Pungent, raw aromas of crushed stone, pepper, truffle and earth: very white soil in character. The impression of rawness continues on the tight, leanish palate, which offers pure flavors of crushed stone, pepper and saline minerality. Highly distinctive aromas of lime, powdered stone, mint, pine needles and white pepper; fruit is the least of it! A seriously concentrated wine of terroir, showing lovely powdered-stone lift to its flavors of menthol, chalk, brown bread and fresh mushroom. Saline, tightly wound wine with lovely clarity and inner-mouth tension; quite dry but plenty ripe. The salty, tactile finish saturates the palate and leaves the taste buds quivering. These old vines sit up against the woods on the Ladoix side, so this is typically later in the succession of picking dates chez Prieur. It's hard to find Corton this delectable and charming, especially so young. The vintage shines through beautifully here. The wine blazes with pure yellow fruits, oyster shell and puff pastry. The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru is completely de-stemmed. It has a slightly conservative bouquet with pure dark cherry and cranberry aromas, but does not quite deliver the nuance and complexity of the best wines from this vineyard in 2017. The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru, which is completely de-stemmed, has a very intense, almost heady bouquet with layers of black cherry and cassis fruit; a dash of black pepper emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, and very powerful for this vineyard, but it manages to maintain balance. This comes from Champs Traversins next to Domaine de la Roman e-Conti's vines. Bright on the nose with licorice, raspberry coulis and red cherry preserves, this is ravishing. Youthful with sensuous, supple fruits, polished tannins and refreshing acidity, this will be delightful early on but also have staying power. The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru comes from the 23-year-old vines within Chambertin Grand Cru and is completely de-stemmed. It has a well-defined, focused bouquet of vivid black and red fruit laced with crushed stone and light earthy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a little saline in the mouth, and gently grippy toward the finish. It feels tight at the moment, showing a little force on the finish rather than a natural flow, but it should mellow with time.保税价格￥ 7,150.00 -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru comes from the "young old vines", around 25-years in age, and is 100% de-stemmed. It’s funny because on the nose, its spiciness implies there are some stems in this blend, well defined and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, velvety opening. The 2020 Meursault Clos de Mazeray Blanc has a nicely detailed bouquet with jasmine and white flower scents complementing the citrus fruit. I find this more complex than the Beaune Blancs. The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru is matured in 60% new oak. It has a finely tuned bouquet with scents of granite filtering through the green apple and pear aromas, and just a little linseed oil in the background. The well-balanced palate displays a fine bead of acidity, good tension from start to finish and a crescendo of concentration that leaves you feeling that you are in the presence of a famous (the most famous?) vineyard.
