Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux
Established in 1858, Arnoux-Lachaux is a family affair. Pascal Lachaux (son-in-law of the late Robert Arnoux) is the fifth generation making wine at this Domaine, which has significant grand Cru holdings. he is now working in the winery with his son Charles who has joined him after working in wine regions in New Zealand, South Africa and Oregon.
The Domaine’s wine has always been good but its quality and reputation are sharply rising. A new winery, cellar upgrade and acquisition of a parcel of the Grand Cru Latricieres Chambertin have all contributed.

Winehog (88)I started with the Bourgogne Pinot Fin, a delightful regional from excellent plots below the road (RD974) in Chambolle-Musigny, Vosne-Romanee, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Clearly one senses the vintage on the finish, and while it is a good wine, Charles Lachaux was fighting nature to produce this wine. Great effort, but 2020 was a difficult mistress. |

Vinous (95)The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Quartiers de Marie Haut Grand Cru has a beautifully-defined bouquet with tensile red berry fruit, wonderful focus, cracked black pepper and a touch of hoisin. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine depth and beguiling sense of symmetry that beckons you back for another sip. This is an outstanding Clos de Vougeot that will age supremely well in bottle. |

Vinous (91-94)Good deep red-ruby. Cool aromas and flavors of raspberry, red cherry and crushed rock lifted by pepper and herbs. Pure, juicy and precise if a bit youthfully imploded, but already showing terrific sappy intensity. Finishes very long and perfumed, with a serious tannic spine. Promises to be Lachaux's best vintage yet for this cuvee, which he initiated with the 2008 after purchasing these old vines from Christopher Newman. |

Jancis Robinson (16.5)1.42 ha from seven lieux-dits in the north of the appellation. 100% whole bunch. Lightish cherry red but greyish rather than crimson. A little more savoury than the Bourgogne and a very slight stemmy herbal note but it's subtle. A little bit peppery. More tension here than in the Bourgogne, a little lighter in obvious fruit and a little more tannic but barely so. Super-fresh. Dry and lingering. So elegant. |

Vinous (93+)Healthy dark red. Sexy, soil-driven nose melds raspberry, spices, herbs and smoky minerals. Plush, fine-grained and sweet yet somehow light on its feet; like the 2016 version, this has a very high pH around 3.9 but its savory minerality and stem element give it sufficient energy and lift. A wonderfully seamless ripe-but-dry wine with a very long, rising finish featuring refined tannins and lingering black cherry and licorice notes. |
