Les Forts de Latour, is one of Bordeaux’s finest 2nd wines. It reveals cassis, cedar and tobacco, yet it drinks slightly younger than its sibling. The 2004 is sensual with the vibrancy of this vintage. Fruit forward and beautifully defined, it drinking very well at the moment.

The 2006 Les Forts de Latour has a much more precise and lively bouquet than the Le Petit Mouton: blackberry, briary and vanilla emerging from the glass, suggesting that it needs another couple of years to reach its peak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, commendable depth of fruit and tangible mineralité. This is better than some of the Pauillac Grand Vins, such is the detail and energy on the finish. Superb. Tasted January 2016. |

Full-bodied, firm and grainy with an impenetrable core of muscular fruit, it finishes with fantastic persistence. Give it 5-7 years at least, and then it may well outlive the 1970 Les Forts that I recently tasted with Latour's CEO, Frédéric Engerer! |
