The 2022 Aloxe-Corton Village was partially affected by hail and is the only cuvée to include whole bunches, which works well on the nose and has more freshness than the Pernand-Vergelesses Les Fichets. A blend of Boulmeau and La Toppe Martenot, east and south facing respectively. A dense central crimson purple. An opulent cherry fruit on the nose. Wine Advocate (92-94)
Derived from lieu-dit Charlemagne, the 2019 Corton Grand Cru reveals aromas of sweet red berries, woodsmoke, raw cocoa and peonies. Vinous (93-95)
The 2022 Corton Grand Cru comes from a parcel within the lieu-dit of Le Charlemagne. It has quite a serious bouquet, tightly wound. This will need time to open but is extremely well-defined with a sense of Pinot classicism. It doesn't sing 'n dance. The palate is well-balanced, the 25% new oak seamlessly integrated, building discretely towards the beautifully poised finish. The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a rather terse bouquet, more saline than the Criots, touches of oyster shell coming through with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with more weight and density than the Criots, grippy and saline with a long spicy aftertaste. The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru conveys more tension and mineralité on the nose than the Criots, very well defined with wet limestone mixed with citrus fruit and apple blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, taut and fresh with a saline finish that has a lovely edginess. The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru has an intense bouquet with a little alcoholic warmth. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed opening, lightly spiced with lower acidity than the other cuvées even though the alcohol is a reasonable 13.8 degrees. The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru is very floral on the nose with pressed white flowers, honeysuckle and broom, touches of chalk and apricot. The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru has a little more vigour and energy on the nose compared to the Vergers or Morgeots. The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru comes from lower down the slope. It has a taut and fresh bouquet—a little austere at first—but gradually reveals its energy. The palate is well balanced with a brisk, edgy opening and citrus-fresh orange zest notes toward the penetrating finish. This has great potential. (from the climats of Les Treux and Clos St. Denis). This is also trimmed in enough wood to notice on the beautifully layered nose of both red and dark currant, exotic tea, spice and floral wisps. The exceptionally rich and nicely textured medium weight plus flavors are shaped by dense but fine tannins on the mouthcoating and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the fleshy yet nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors that flash evident minerality on the dusty and youthfully austere finale where the supporting tannic spine is even finer. Here the expressive and slightly riper nose is spicier still with its markedly floral nose that reflects notes of violet, lavender and rose petal on the black cherry and kirsch nuances. The suave, concentrated and seductively textured middleweight flavors where the velvety mouthfeel contrasts somewhat with the firm, serious and robust finale that exhibits excellent length.
