Silky, sappy and impressively concentrated, with black raspberry and cooler cherry flavors framed and enlivened by brisk acidity. (20% new oak and one-third vendange entier; the average vine age here is 50 years): Medium red. More delicate on the nose than the Les Sizies, offering scents of strawberry and stone. Then juicier and more energetic on the palate, showing lovely precision and penetration to its red fruit and saline mineral flavors. On the lean side but the firmly tannic finish leaves behind a salty tang. Winemaker Brian Sieve describes the estate's Perrières holding as our most active limestone site along with the Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Thoreys. The 2020 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru is two-thirds whole cluster fruit. Quite closed, broody and stroppy on the nose, it does not budge when I gave my glass aeration. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, quite saline and spicy, a dash of white pepper towards the finish. Good depth, quite voluminous on the finish. 5 stars. From the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin, towards Brochon. One third whole bunch and 25% new wood. Glowing crimson purple, a little bit deeper than Arnaud’s Ma Cuvée. The oak shows a little less, this has a superb richness of fruit which remains totally fresh. All in red fruit. No question but this will make some great bottles. Really long finish. The 2015 Marsannay les Longeroies was completely de-stemmed and matured in 20% new oak. It offers darker fruit than the Fixin, perhaps more introspective at the moment with touches of dried herbs and tobacco infusing the fruit. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit and fine salinity. There is plenty of energy conveyed by this Marsannay with wonderful precision and freshness on the finish. The 2023 Clos de la Commaraine aromas are deep and rich, with notes of plum and blackberry, hints of earth and leather and a light floral note at the end. The texture is firm, tannic and dense, but not unyielding. The grapes are from a 3.63ha monopole clos. The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very deep hue. The extraordinarily pure bouquet features black cherries intermingling with blueberry and oyster shell, and later a hint of potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, edgy and stony, with dark berry fruit and a little spicier than I recall apropos of previous Echézeaux at this stage. The colour is a little denser, a little richer than the Echezeaux. The bouquet is more backward, yet more complex. It is hard to put specific fruits to this. Increasing weight on the nose, all red berry, no black notes. The wealth of fruit attacks quickly and then stays, with fresh roses jostling among the lush but still quite precise fruit flavours. The structure maintains its role and helps to keep this powerful wine fresh. The volume now swells magically on the second half of the palate, with darker notes. The 2005 La Tâche is simply magnificent. There is not too much I can add. Deep, powerful and richly textured, the 2005 simply has it all. Time in the glass releases the aromatics, but it is the wine’s pure sensuality I find most enticing. A host of dark red and blue stone fruits, hard candy and wild flowers take center stage. 2007 La Tâche was restrained and elegant, with an alluring bouquet of bright red fruit such as pomegranate and cranberry, plus a bit of the sweetness of fraise de bois, then an accent of rose petals and violets. The texture is fresh, almost crisp.
