A blend of Boulmeau and La Toppe Martenot, east and south facing respectively. A dense central crimson purple. An opulent cherry fruit on the nose. Fully ripe fruit on the palate but even and quite generous, with adequate acidity and the tannins are not aggressive, quite persistent. Drink from 2028-2030. Tasted Oct 2024.

Wine Advocate (92-94)

Derived from lieu-dit Charlemagne, the 2019 Corton Grand Cru reveals aromas of sweet red berries, woodsmoke, raw cocoa and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and fine-boned, it's pure and precise, with a more ethereal profile than the richer, more soil-driven Aloxe-Corton premiers crus that preceded it.

The 2022 Corton Grand Cru comes from a parcel within the lieu-dit of Le Charlemagne. It has quite a serious bouquet, tightly wound. This will need time to open but is extremely well-defined with a sense of Pinot classicism. It doesn't sing 'n dance. The palate is well-balanced, the 25% new oak seamlessly integrated, building discretely towards the beautifully poised finish. This Corton might be easily overlooked, but for me, it epitomizes how far this Grand Cru has improved in recent years. Wonderful.

Aromas of cherries, raspberries, warm spices and loamy soil introduce the 2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that's enveloping and gourmand, structured around ripe tannins and succulent acids. Like the Romanée-Saint-Vivant, this is sourced from the Poisot family.

From Le Charlemagne. Rich dense purple with quite a powerful weight of fruit but verging on the cooked plums. Good oak, quite suave, not at all ugly at the finish, but a riper style of fruit than the ideal. Tasted: October 2021

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a rather terse bouquet, more saline than the Criots, touches of oyster shell coming through with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with more weight and density than the Criots, grippy and saline with a long spicy aftertaste. This is excellent - but serious and warranting cellaring for three or four years.

The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru conveys more tension and mineralité on the nose than the Criots, very well defined with wet limestone mixed with citrus fruit and apple blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, taut and fresh with a saline finish that has a lovely edginess. With great persistent and poise, this is a very impressive Bâtard-Montrachet.

The 2020 Bourgogne Blanc has a light apple blossom nose, touches of citrus peel, the absence of new oak lending this a sense of neutrality. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity, taut and fresh. Fine.

The 2021 Bourgogne Blanc has a well-defined bouquet, simple but focused. The palate is well balanced with a slightly honeyed opening, fine acidity with touch of almond and spice on the finish. Lovely.

Vinous (89)

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru has an intense bouquet with a little alcoholic warmth. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed opening, lightly spiced with lower acidity than the other cuvées even though the alcohol is a reasonable 13.8 degrees. The frost has really concentrated this wine and it displays very good length, but it just misses a little terroir expression.

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru is very floral on the nose with pressed white flowers, honeysuckle and broom, touches of chalk and apricot. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, more density than the La Grande Montagne, impressive weight and salinity that gets the saliva flowing on the finish. Excellent.

Vinous (90-92)

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru has a little more vigour and energy on the nose compared to the Vergers or Morgeots. The palate is well balanced with lime and orange pith, edgier than other cuvées with orange rind and ginger arming the finish. I can see this maturing nicely in bottle.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91-93)

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru comes from lower down the slope. It has a taut and fresh bouquet—a little austere at first—but gradually reveals its energy. The palate is well balanced with a brisk, edgy opening and citrus-fresh orange zest notes toward the penetrating finish. This has great potential. I can imagine it marrying perfectly with fruits de mer.

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a crisp, more understated bouquet with more earthy overtones that the domaine's other cuvées. The palate is one of the most terroir-expressive from the domaine, very well defined with a lightly spiced finish. This has a real spring in its step.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru just misses the mineralité expressed by other cuvées on the nose - a little one-dimensional by comparison. The palate is better with fine "bite" on the entry, moderate depth, perhaps just needing a little more precision on the finish.

Matured with 20% new oak the 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Village has a high-toned and expressive bouquet with white flowers and a touch of tangerine. The palate is well balanced with a finely tuned opening, lemon verbena and apricot, with a pretty, quite floral finish. This is quite classy for a Chassagne Village.

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge offers lilting red cherry and wild strawberry scents on the nose, hints of rose petal coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine definition, lightly spiced, quite energetic on the finish. This is very elegant for Chassagne Rouge.

Bottled. A little more subdued on the nose than the Bâtard-Montrachet. But more intense on the palate. Deeper, creamier and more opulent and still with the right balance between zippy fruit and creamy oak.

Aromas of clear honey, blanched almonds and pear mingle with hints of citrus blossom and orange oil, introducing the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, elegantly textural wine that's supple and enveloping, with lovely depth and dimension at the core, underpinned by lively acids. Long and perfumed, this is an elegant, expressive Montrachet from Fontaine-Gagnard.

(from Les Baudes Basses). Like the Vosne-Romanée “Petits Monts”, there is a hint of mocha to the ripe plum, red berry earth and moderate wood-suffused nose. The rich, full-bodied and powerful flavors possess good if not special mid-palate density as well as solid energy that carries over to the youthfully austere, firm and built-to-age finale that exhibits lovely balance. This is also quite good and a wine that should amply repay extended keeping.

Deep crimson colour. A very lively fruit here, all in red berries. Good tension here, a few drops of a darker fruit but this remains mostly in a bright red profile, fresh but not firm tannins and very good length. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.

(from the climats of Les Treux and Clos St. Denis). This is also trimmed in enough wood to notice on the beautifully layered nose of both red and dark currant, exotic tea, spice and floral wisps. The exceptionally rich and nicely textured medium weight plus flavors are shaped by dense but fine tannins on the mouthcoating and lingering finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This too offers excellent development potential and it’s just as well because it definitely needs to add depth with time in bottle.

A more energetic ruby crimson, with a sweeter perfumed fruit. Flowers and raspberries. Delicious energy throughout and light on its feet. Maybe less immediately striking than Gaudichots but I think it is the finer of the two. I love the aftertaste. Drink from 2030-2040. Tasted Dec 2024.

(from vines planted between 1937 and 1942). This is also attractively floral in character with its nose of red and dark currant and more obvious earth influence that is also trimmed in moderate wood. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the fleshy yet nicely detailed medium-bodied flavors that flash evident minerality on the dusty and youthfully austere finale where the supporting tannic spine is even finer. This is quite good with fine development potential yet it should also drink reasonably well young.

A little more depth of colour, crimson ruby. Dark cherry and plum, with some concentration while remaining accessible. Exemplary for this middle section of Nuits, with ripe tannins, good length. Drink from 2031-2037. Tasted Dec 2024.

Bright purple. So sensual on the nose, a dark fruit still with redder highlights, bursting with energy some fresh red and energised black berry fruit highlights, few tannins though there is a sense of structure and great length. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Dec 2024.

The 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Village has a flattering bouquet with violet and peony tinged black cherry fruit, well-defined and focused. The oak here is nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, quite granular in texture with a brisk, saline finish. Give this 2-4 years in bottle and it should turn into a fine Chambolle that will be hard to resist in its flush of youth.
