The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has a lively bouquet with dark cherry fruit, hints of fig and damson, though I would never describe it as over-ripe. There might be just touch of brettanomyces here. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, quite rounded and voluminous in the mouth with a soft landing on the finish. The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, like many of its NSG compadres. This seems to dissipate with aeration, although the nuance and detail of Gouges's Les Pruliers tasted alongside do not materialize. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a little chewiness on the entry and good grip. There is a firmness here, a little obduracy that should be tamed with bottle age, so give it five years in the cellar, because there is potential. Headspinning, expressive nose combines candied red fruits, chocolate, minerals, pepper, smoked meat, five-spice powder, underbrush and flowers; this incorporates all the Chambertin food groups. Hugely thick, sappy and sweet, with outstanding volume and breadth. Wonderfully dense flavors of raspberry, menthol, five-spice powder and underbrush. Finishes with broad, noble tannins and unflagging persistence. This captures the essence of the 2003 vintage, and is showing spectacularly today. Very ripe aromas of cassis, black berry liqueur, violet and anise precede the equally broad-shouldered flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the powerful, hugely long and very serious finish that is shaped by a markedly firm tannic spine. The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru seems to offer more fruit intensity on the nose compared to the 2014 Clos-de-Bèze, with cranberry and fresh strawberry, and a touch of damp woodland in the background. It gains intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied but with great substance and depth than the Clos de Bèze; there is a keen line of acidity cutting through the intense red berry fruit, and wonderful mineralité and tension on the finish.
