Wine Advocate (73)An aroma highly suggestive of freshly brewed tea and ripe tangerines suggests overripeness. On the palate, the wine is diffuse, lacking direction, and is somewhat watery and uninteresting. This is a curious and unappealing rendition of Batailley. Anticipated maturity: Now-probably in serious decline. Last tasted, 2/79. |

Discover the exquisite Bernard Burgaud Cote Rotie 1999, an esteemed selection from the celebrated slopes of Northern Rhône, France. Famed vigneron Bernard Burgaud carefully cultivates this varietal using traditional farming methods, resulting in a truly remarkable expression of Syrah. The nose is mesmerisingly complex, unfolding with notes of black fruit, dark chocolate, and a subtle undertone of spice. As it graces the palate, the wine's character mirrors its aromatics with rich, layered flavours that persist in an elegant finish, a testament to the vintage's extraordinary ripening conditions. Produced entirely in Burgaud's quaint, family-run domaine, this vintage adopts a minimalist approach, with natural yeasts and minimal filtration, echoing Burgaud's reverence for preserving the vineyard's innate character. Vinous - Neal Martin (85)The 1971 Canon displays wide bricking on the rim. The nose has a rather incongruous sweetness that suggests zealous chaptalization, quite ferrous with the "rustiness" I observed in a previous bottle tasted several years earlier. The palate is balanced but simple, rather loose knit with tart cherry fruit and a splash of balsamic towards the light and simple finish. It is a harmless 1971, but frankly a long way behind its peers in this year. Tasted at the château. |

Vinous - Josh Raynolds (92-94)Inky ruby. Sexy red berry and floral scents, with bright graphite and cracked pepper adding complexity. Juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are enlivened by brisk acidity and firmed by suave tannins. Finishes with tangy strawberry flavor and compelling sweetness and length. This is extremely well-balanced and graceful. |

Vinous (94)Deep but bright aromas of crushed stone and cherry-almond. Fat and opulent; stuffed with soft citrus, spice and stone flavors. A wine of impressive volume, power and fullness but rather backward today. Finishes with lovely balance and superb length. Despite the wine's sheer size and ripeness, the terroir of Rougeots dominates the vintage. |

Jancis Robinson (17.5)Bright lustrous red. Shy nose at first. Very sweet palate entry insinuates itself. Lowish acid. Some violets and an very slight undertow of fine tannins. Firm and confident with just a little suggestion of cooked fruit. Good constitution! |

Wine Spectator (96)Some people may enjoy this wine's rather fat, rich and powerful fruit now, but I still find it too young for drinking. Deeply colored, with smoky mint, tar and fruit aromas, full-bodied, with concentrated fruit flavors and plenty of tannins. -JS |

Expressing the mastery of premium viticulture, the Forey Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge 2018 is an eloquent testament to the savoir-faire of vignerons in France's Burgundy region. Born from the revered soils of Morey-Saint-Denis, this svelte red inherits its notable pedigree from the noble Pinot Noir grape, embodying a restrained power and contemplative depth. An integral part of Domaine Forey Père & Fils since 1987, the Morey-Saint-Denis vineyard's hand-harvested fruits undergo traditional open-vat fermentation, marrying time-honoured methods with contemporary precision. Redolent with haunting forest fruits and delicate spice undertones, Forey Morey-Saint-Denis Rouge 2018 unveils a velvety tannic frame, supporting a concentrated palate rich in nuanced layers. Assertive yet elegantly balanced, this vibrant vintage is a superlative embodiment of the epitomic Burgundy spirit, narrating the compelling tale of its cherished terroir. Invest in this invigorating slice of wine history and experience the exquisite refinement of French enology at its peak. |

Wine Spectator (100)Fabulous for the vintage. Very grapey, with dark fruits and cured tobacco, leading to a cedar and berry undertone. Full-bodied, with round and rich fruit and big, velvety tannins, yet with all in reserve. A generous, seductive young wine that surprises you with its length. Score range: 95-100 |

James Suckling (100)Amazing aromas here with tobacco, crushed stone, cigar box, currants, tar, and lead pencil, as well as spices, iron, and dried ginger. Medium- to full-bodied, with a density and tightness. Very compact and complex. Racy. Delicacy with strength. Orange peel undertones. A wine to contemplate. You must understand it to understand the great Lafites of the past and those of the future. Only 12.8% alcohol. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2030, but drink it if you have the chance taste it. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (98)The 1985 Léoville–Las Cases is not just one of the finest vintages from this Second Growth, but one of the high points for the entirety of Bordeaux in this decade. Here it eclipses the 1985 Lafite-Rothschild with ease. It has an exquisitely defined bouquet of red berry fruit infused with crushed stone and pressed rose petals, just like before. Ethereal. The palate is medium-bodied, a perfect marriage of structure and a degree of elegance that maybe the property has not matched before or since. It’s so, so harmonious on the finish. An absolute beauty. Tasted at Hameau de Barbaron in Burgundy. |

Wine Advocate (95+)A striking young wine, Dauvissat's brilliant 2020 Chablis 1er Cru La Forest unfurls in the glass with aromas of crisp orchard fruit, orange oil, pear, oyster shell, freshly baked bread and smoke, framed by a deft touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's taut and concentrated, with racy acids, chalky structuring and a long, searingly mineral finish. Recent years have delivered so many brilliant renditions of La Forest that it's hard to pick a favorite between the likes of 2008, 2014, 2017 and 2019, but the 2020 is certainly a worthy entrant into the competition, and it's worth a special effort to seek out. |

Vinous (98)Glass-staining violet. Displays expansive, highly perfumed aromas of black raspberry and boysenberry, with exotic spice, violet oil, smoky mineral and incense notes building in the glass. Densely packed yet almost shockingly energetic on the palate, offering penetrating black and blue fruit liqueur, floral pastille, allspice and olive paste flavors with a hint of cracked pepper. The floral note carries emphatically through a wonderfully long, sharply detailed finish that's framed by youthfully gripping, polished tannins. |
