Formerly known as Valmaggione, this is a superb Nebbiolo d'Alba and, much like the Barolo, punches well above its weight in terms of expectations given its appellation. With the benefit of Brovia's excellent vineyard management and attention to detail, their Nebbiolo d'Alba has a delicately balanced floral and tart cherry aromatic profile as well as some lively acidity and dusty tannins which will allow it to age as long as many a great Barolo.

The warm vintage seems to have given the Valmaggiore an extra kick of mid-palate sweetness, which is not a bad thing for a wine that can at times be a bit lean. Sweet red berry fruit and floral notes are nicely pushed forward. The 2017 will benefit from a few years in bottle, which will allow the aromatics to develop, but it is impeccable in its balance and super-classy, even in the early going. |

Succulent, silky tannins give the 2013 much of its up-front appeal. The 2013 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next few years. The mid-weight, lifted style is quite typical of the wines of Alba. Paitin gave the 2013 one year in cask and a second year in tonneau. |
